Errr... Benning I can kinda understand, but Newman....? He was actually scoring some runs wasn't he? Sounds like theres been a bust up somewhere along the
way.

And another great example of the web-site leaving us with too little information.
As far as most people are concerned, I think, Benning is good to watch in the field but has been offered plenty of chances to nail down a place. Good luck to him if he manages to find a slot elsewhere. Newman, frustrating though he can be, has looked fitter this season and has made some runs - so what has precipitated this? I don't expect the web-site to wash dirty linen in public, but we could be offered something along the lines of 'Adams feels unable to offer him a regular place, and he wants to play in all forms of the game'. |

Newman form has not been that great, 5 games 8 innings highest score 124, total runs 214 average 27.1. So probably this is the rason he is not playing and he
adds little else to the team. Poor fielder and does not bowl so worth having a look at others such as Walters and hopefull Murtagh etc.

Glad to see Newman dropped,he has for the last few seasons underperformed and still kept in the side, about time he was dropped, lets see what the likes of
Walters and Murtagh can do,they are hopefully the future and should be given the chance. Benning is another one who has gone backwards and just not improved
despite plenty of chances.

Benning lives off a few one day knocks a few years ago! This might give Newman a kick up the arse if he wants to continue at Surrey |

As I have said many times before Benning's technique is not the best and good bowlers will nearly always find him out. Sadly, he does not seem to have
improved and is paying the penalty.
Newman on the other hand is another matter. We know his fielding has always been suspect and his fitness levels dubious ( although it does look as if he has made an effort in that direction ). His batting performances would not justify putting him out to grass. It must be something else. Attitude perhaps? Lack of commitment? |

I'm certainly not a Newman fan but to be fair to the bloke I have seen signs of improvement this season and his definitely is fitter.
There must be something going on behind the scenes then. As for Benning - I just think its a real shame because he looked the business 3 or 4 years ago... |

It looks like the end of the line for these two,the word around the Pav today,is that they have both played their last games for Surrey, Newman,it is rumoured
because of his attitude and Benning because of his lack of improvement. I think there might be a few more leaving the staff at the end of the season,
Ormond,Collins and possibly Hussain. It is time to get rid of the deadwood and bring in the youngsters, even if we lose a few matches,at least the youngsters
might learn something.

According to the Notts website Newman has not been included in the squad for their CC match against Sussex. Not on the injury list so is that the end of the
Nottinghamshire experience for him?

Telegraph reports that Notts are not going to offer Newman a contract and he is now being linked to Middlesex.
